Algarve Resorts - Alvor
Monday, 16th November 2009
Alvor is about 40 miles from Faro and next door to Portimao and Praia de Rocha. The name Alvor was derived from the Arabic name Albur, given to the Port when under Moorish control.
The resort was once a port and fishing village, and at times in its history an important port. With its lovely harbour and beaches, it is now, with its near neighbours, a major tourist destination. The Old town is a maze of narrow streets, where you will finds lots of bars and restaurants
Not to be outdone by its neighbours, Alvor has its own town Festival in March.
The three close neighbours, Praia de Rocha, Portimao and Alvor have everything a visitor could wish for. Getting around is easy, with an excellent bus service and cheap taxis.
