Algarve Resorts - Vilamoura and Quarteria
Monday, 16th November 2009
Vilamoura is only seven miles from Albufeira, and 18 miles from Faro airport.
Vilamoura is virtually merged with the resort of Quarteira and a little tourist train links the two. It is also a very easy walk. There are regular bus services to Albufeira. Vilamoura is not a town or port, rather it is an enormous recreational centre, containing a Marina, world famous golf course, pines forests, and beautiful landscapes. No less than six golf courses are in the area. The atmosphere is one of sophistication and relaxation. There are several beaches near the Marina, and the beautiful Falésia beach is close by, with its stunning red sandy cliffs. This is a truly spectacular beach, one of the longest in the whole of Portugal. The small town of Falesia is close by, but not widely frequented by holidaymakers.
Vilamoura and have Quarteira an impressive range of top class Hotels, alongside excellent tourist class hotels. There is also an excellent selection of restaurants, night clubs and casinos. The beaches of Albufeira and its nightlife are only fifteen minutes by car, bus or taxi.
Golfers will love Vilamoura with its three courses. The Old Course is world famous and has held many top tournaments.
For visitors interested in archaeology, there is a Roman Villa in nearby Cerro da Vila. Visitors will see many fancy yauchts moored at the Marina, with many boat trips and boat charters available.
Quarteira is the location for Aquashow Algarve, a spectacular water park. It is also the home to a collection of birds, including parrots and macaws.
Nightlife is hectic and fun, although not as noisy as nearby Albufeira. These are truly special resorts with something for everybody.
