Getting Around The Algarve

Monday, 16th November 2009

For those visitors who want to see lots of The Algarve, by far the best way to get around is to hire a car. The costs are cheap by UK standards, and will give you the freedom to go where you choose, when you choose. The road system is good, and safe, provided you take care. The new motorway gives a fast link from Faro to Lisbon. There is also a motorway to Seville in Spain.

If you prefer public transport, the bus system is excellent, with links between most towns and resorts. There are long distance buses in Faro places such as Lisbon and Seville. Tickets on some services need to be pre-booked, so remember to buy your ticket at the station before you board the bus.

Visitors can use taxis, but for longer journeys these can be expensive. Taxis are safe, reliable, and well regulated, but make sure you agree the fare before setting out.

There is a local train service from Faro to Lagos, which makes many stops on the way, and a national service from Faro to Lisbon.
