Places to Visit - Almancil
Monday, 16th November 2009
Almasil is 8 miles from Faro, less than 4 miles south of Loule, and four miles west of Vilamoura. The up-market areas of Vale de Lobo and Quinto do Lago are close by.
The main attraction of this prosperous little town is the beautiful Church of St Lourenco. Built in the second half of the 18th century, the church is covered in “azulejos”, polished hand painted tiles. These decorative tiles were introduced to the Algarve by the Moors. The effect is breathtaking.
Almasil has a good selection of restaurants, and is most definitely worth a visit.
