Places to Visit - Porches

Porches is a very pretty inland town. It has managed to retain its character, and is a perfect rural retreat. However, it is only a few minutes’ drive to the beach resort of Carvoeiro, and less than 12 miles from Albufeira. The area produces wine, and has orange groves in abundance.
The area is famous for pottery and ceramics. Much of the production is hand painted, and sold all over Europe. The two main potteries are well worth a visit, and give the chance to buy some very nice items at factory prices.
There is a fun festival in June, called the Snail Festival, a celebration of gastronomy. If you like snails, then this is for you.
